Swindon Carers Centre is an independent charity that support unpaid carers. Whilst working for Swindon Carers Centre I progressed quickly through various roles. I worked as a receptionist, admin assistant and Carer initial assessment co- ordinator. I was then promoted to my current position of an Adult carer support practitioner. As a support Practitioner I worked with carers on a one to one basis to provide support and advice where needed around their caring role. The role involved creating bespoke support plans for individual Carers; this is then reviewed on a regular basis to taking into account external factors that occur. I worked with a large database and have developed my understanding of how to access and keep track of key information. Working on a one to one basis with Carers allowed me to enhance my communication, listening skills and also taught me the importance of confidentiality to build successful working relationships. These are all imperative when dealing with highly sensitive topics.

After six years of working as a waitress at the hotel I was promoted to my role as receptionist. This role not only improved my customer service skills but also my financial skills as well. I was accountable for the only safe in the hotel which was not only a large responsibility but also improved my numerical skills. It taught me how to accurately balance different accounts throughout the day, for example; restaurant payments, room charges and bar takings. I was also regularly assigned to cash up the tills throughout the day.As part of my job I was also responsible for greeting guests and customers. It was important for me to remain professional at all times, often remaining diplomatic to customers during any enquiries or complaints; which included navigating language barriers. I conducted daily research of our competitors within the hotel sector which included sourcing their room availability, prices and packages offered. This would then be discussed at the daily meetings that I organised and recorded between all departments within the hotel. I ensured everyone had the essential information on the day’s events and maintained communication between departments.

Marsh Farm Hotel is an independent Hotel with a 3 star rating. The Hotel was a venue for functions such as; weddings, conferences and private parties. The hotel provided stays for both business and leisure. I started working for the hotel as a waitress and later the role included working at the bar. My duties involved facilitating the needs of the restaurant; greeting customers as they arrived, taking their orders and ensuring their needs were met throughout their experience. The role also involved servicing conferences and working within a team to service weddings. Further to this I was also responsible for cashing up the tills at the end of the shift, I had to ensure that the takings balanced with the till report. I quickly became a valued member of staff, often being called upon last minute to cover shifts, manage smaller functions and train new members of staff. I gained multiple responsibilities and showed willingness to learn and perform skills above my position.
