I am currently a board of trustees member on the Mangere Mountain Education Trust, which is a Council Controlled Organisation. Trustees are appointed by Auckland Council, Makaurau Marae and Pukaki Marae. The Mangere Mountain Education Centre is a non-profit organisation administered by the Māngere Mountain Education Trust, and supported by Te Wai-o-Hua, Auckland City Council and the Department of Conservation.

Te Whakakitenga Representative for Makaurau Marae

I have been elected by my marae, Makaurau Marae Ihumatao, to represent them for a three year term on Te Whakakitenga o Waikato. Te Whakakitenga o Waikato is the tribal authority that represents tribal members of the 68 Marae of Waikato-Tainui, that serves to protect and advance the collective interests of our iwi. The current governance structure was established from the Waikato Raupatu Claims Settlement (1995) and incorporates a democratic structure where Marae hold a vital role. I was a full-time environmental consultant, involved in ecology, land and water quality sectors. Within this role I gained broad experience through assisting with many projects across the country. This included work in cultural impact assessments, Iwi environmental management plans, GIS, watercourse assessments, water quality monitoring, compliance monitoring, processing wastewater applications, biodiversity translocation (lizards & fish), stakeholder engagement and communication with clients. I co-founded this boutique that is based on quality and ethically sourced clothing and accessories. I ensure that there is fair trade with our business and that locally sourced product is high quality and well designed. Within the business, I managed all social media, marketing, campaigns, contact with clients, quality and design control, and creative design. My understanding of the New Zealand retail market is that there is a need for more ethical and environmentally friendly sourced product, especially at an affordable price. Therefore, my business partner and I pushed this vision forward and made Nakara Boutique a reality.

I was involved with assisting a biodiversity count of lizards, resetting traps with bait, handling lizards and identifying the different species.
