• Summer Education Leader - El Pueblo History Museum

  After previous work experience at the El Pueblo Museum, I was asked to return as a part-time summer staff member. In this position, I aided the summer camp program like I had in the past and served as a leader to other staff members. I ensured that the program ran smoothly and efficiently under new leadership. I designed and facilitated unique hands-on lessons about local Colorado history for elementary and middle school-aged students. I also worked to write a standardized curriculum that could be used in History Colorado education programs across the state. I used museum collections to research and formulate activities for students visiting the museum on field trips. I also assisted with exhibit installations. Also, the museum had a collection of books and one-of-a-kind research materials that had been stored in a backroom for years. I personally took charge to organize these books following the Dewey decimal system and developed an online library cataloging system that allowed me to create an inventory of these research materials. I created this system to allow the general public to access these unique documents while also keeping track of them.   My primary role during this position was as the main facilitator for one of History Colorado's after-school programs for middle school students. I created both in-person and virtual lessons that taught not only Colorado history but also encouraged students to learn more about their own families' history while exploring their individual identities and learning leadership skills. Following the completion of that program at the end of the fall semester, I was invited to facilitate virtual programming over the winter break for elementary-age students.
