Hello and welcome! My name is Sophia. I am a graduate intern counsellor from Adler University, currently working towards completing my Masters in Counselling Psychology. After obtaining my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Victoria, my fascination with the human mind, relationships, and personal growth deepened. My passion for mental health is also rooted in personal experience; what really interests me about counselling is the opportunity it gives both clients and therapists to grow and change into more authentic versions of themselves. I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, but have had the privilege of travelling extensively, volunteering internationally, and immersing myself in a variety of different cultures. As a therapist, I am committed to appreciating individual diversity and understanding its impact on one’s identity. In my past training and experiences, I have worked directly with individuals experiencing a range of issues, including: substance abuse, disordered eating, anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, and trauma. Having gone through my own journey as a client, I know that it takes courage to reach out for help, particularly when feeling vulnerable, anxious, overwhelmed, or wrought with emotion. I strongly believe that we are the experts of our own lives. Using a collaborative, holistic approach, I will meet you where you’re at with respect to your unique concerns, strengths, and therapeutic goals. In my practice, I bring genuineness, compassion, and curiosity into each session. Focusing on the here and now experience, I primarily draw from person-centered, humanistic, and mindfulness- based methods. My aim is to help you connect with your inner resources and true values, and to address the barriers preventing you from living your most fulfilling life. I look forward to meeting and working with you!
