Heart for the Unhoused is a student-run nonprofit focused on increasing healthcare accessibility and primary care utilization among unhoused populations. Over the course of 4 years, I greatly expanded the HU's initiatives to move into a project-based model that now consists of 12 community-advised projects in addition to an increased number of health screenings held in conjunction with physicians. During this time, I advocated for member growth, increasing membership by over 100 members while restructuring the executive board to accommodate growth. I also coordinated with other student groups, maintained nonprofit status, and added a second physician advisor to our organization while securing thousands of dollars in grant funding. Based on the success of this model, HU has recently opened chapters at universities across the country, including UT Austin, Loyola, Ohio State, and Macalester College, and more to come. Show less

Peer-Led Team Learning (PLTL) is a research-based model of collaborative learning that supplements large STEM lectures, and leader selection is highly competitive. As a leader for General Chemistry, I use group facilitation techniques to lead a group of students through weekly two-hour problem-solving sessions while receiving training in effective leadership techniques and mentoring through semester coursework created by the Department of Chemistry.
