As a specialist of the Hull Bluewater portfolio, I have spent a substantial amount of time analysing and further improving the underlying data by performing cleansing and enrichment activities. Part of this exercise was to bring together vessel exposure and claims data. Working hand in hand with the underwriting and operations teams, we implemented data quality guidelines coupled with quarterly revisions. The initial GLM analysis, carried out using Excel and “R”, had potential but was limited by a lack of flexibility in the modelling tools. With the introduction of EMBLEM, general linear modeling was greatly improved. In order to test a wider range of potential risk factors I used my knowledge of the previous model to enrich the data and make the model a lot more flexible. Results of my portfolio analysis were presented to the global underwriting teams, leading to the revised Hull model now implemented worldwide across all offices that write Bluewater Hull.
