Mark Townend

Sonja came to the Office of Personnel Services and Benefits as a participant in an International Internship program between the University of Baltimore and Valencia University, Spain. Sonja is one of our strongest interns to date. She takes all assignments and develops them rather than just completing them. She is constantly reviewing and making suggestions on all work performed by the unit. Additionally she brings ideas and recommendations above and beyond the scope of her assigned work. Sonja recommended that we submit a nomination for an award through a professional association. Her thought was that even if we didn't win, we would record our project and be able to showcase it for other HR professionals. She took the initiative to draft the rough copy of the submission (even with her high vantage view of what our HR project was) and forwarded the draft to those on the project for completion. Her professional behaviors are exemplary, from communicating with management to her arriving ahead of her appointed time and often staying after. She only once requested time off, and that was to attend a conference on HR. On her return she provided us with a summary and ideas from that conference. Additionally she provides staff and management with positive insight as to the workings of government in her country from a first hand perspective. I have found my time with her to be enjoyable and productive. Based on our experience with Sonja, we hope to continue our participation in the International Internship program with University of Baltimore. Based on her time with us, we would highly recommend her in any professional setting.
