Bio
Elizabeth Swanson
Sol is a highly skilled MYP teacher who creates conceptually-based, inquiries that include a huge variety of opportunity for student choice. He is adept at using the MYP framework within the context of a Project-Based Learning approach. His units and tasks have access points for all learners and he constantly collects formal and more informal formative assessment data through conferring. This constant conferring means that Sol can differentiate for learners in the moment, when it is needed most. His phenomenal classroom facilitation skills were mirrored in his work as the Curriculum Learning Leader (Head of Department) for Individuals and Societies. Through Sol's organized, team-based approach to departmental curriculum planning, the team has transformed its assessment practices within the MYP framework, increased opportunities for student choice at all grade levels, and begun the hard work of ATL skill articulation. It is thanks to Sol's instructional coaching abilities and his belief in the capacity of his team that this has been possible.
Uphus Pamela
Sol was a creative and energetic performer in our student and staff junior high musicals. We had a great time working with colleagues and students to put on the shows. You have to be a dedicated and committed teacher/artist/performer/friend to give up that much time and put in that kind of effort for a small town, junior high theatre program. Thanks for the memories Sol!
