Sofia is currently in my Documenting Your World class at Rutgers University, a multimedia course that requires each student to create both an original podcast and a short-form documentary focusing on something that's happening in their own lives. From the very first session, Sofia has brought an infectiously positive energy to the classroom, engaging deeply in every discussion and taking on every assignment with great intensity. She's an outstanding collaborator on group projects, so much so that when I noticed another student struggling with assignments due to a language barrier, I asked Sofia to lend him extra support. She accepted without batting an eye, and that student has finally found his footing as a direct result of her efforts -- which only led me to toss new challenges in Sofia's direction. When another professor and I decided to create our own original podcast celebrating Rutgers "Writer's House" program, we were looking for a student to play the role of narrator. Having heard Sofia's podcast (and knowing she's interning at professional radio station) it was an easy choice to make, and as expected, she nailed the part. What makes collaborating with Sofia so enjoyable is that she's up for anything at a moment's notice, from giving feedback on our podcast to being interviewed for another student's short film about the struggles of trying to live a creative life. I look forward to continuing to work with Sofia after the semester is over, and highly recommend her to anyone looking for an up and coming young artist who's brimming with ideas and hungry for new experience.
