During my last couple years at Montana State University, Sobia was an amazing mentor to me while I worked under her at the Center for Biofilm Engineering conducting research on bio-based adhesives. As an undergraduate in mechanical engineering, I had minimal experience to guide me going into the lab. Under Sobia's guidance, I developed a multitude of technical and life skills that I carried with me both in and outside of the lab. The technical skills I gained included spread plating, waste disposal, growing cell cultures, making composite solutions, and running analytical tests on the performance of the resulting adhesives. I learned how to write grant proposals, how to design and present research posters, how to develop an experiment and then independently run it, how to gather, organize, analyze, and draw conclusions from data gathered, and how to write a research-based manuscript. More so than that, Sobia was the headliner in my journey to becoming a more confident and successful researcher and woman in STEM. Sobia always believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. She taught me how to be patient and forgiving with myself when things didn't go as expected or planned, and how it’s always important to celebrate every victory, no matter how seemingly small. When I was struck with nerves during my first speech at my first conference at the Montana Biofilm Science & Technology meeting, Sobia was the first to support, reassure, and congratulate me on this big stepping stone in my research career. Even beyond being supportive in our research, she was always understanding and accommodating in my time and capabilities as I was taking a full course load as well as working another job during my time at the lab. Her care and support for me continues to show even a year after I have graduated and continued on to a post grad job at Bridger Photonics. Her motivation, passion, and kind heart applied in both her professional and personal life are hugely inspiring and admirable for myself and everyone else around her.

I am fortunate to have worked closely with Sobia during my time at the Montana State University’s Center for Biofilm Engineering. Sobia was my mentor and played a significant role in personal and professional growth. Through her leadership and by the example she set, I learned many skills including communication, professionalism, project development, and research analysis. Sobia worked with me and encouraged me throughout my undergraduate research and our work on the
