Working with Kromatic Media, I co-produced the award-winning podcast, Mared & Karen: The WVU Coed Murders, which covers a local 48-year-old murder case. The podcast incorporates interviews from reporters, law professionals, forensic experts, and former classmates of the victims, as well as research from law enforcement reports, news articles and new evidence to support a theory of wrongful conviction in the case. The episodes feature original music provided by local musicians in the score and soundtrack. The podcast was even added into the curriculum of WVU, Marshall University, George Mason University, and the University of Tennessee. Our crew took over two classes at WVU to discuss the Coed Case with forensic students and later remotely visited Art Taylor's class as guest speakers at George Mason University to answer questions about the case. In March, 2018, the podcast was awarded the Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists in the category of Radio In-Depth Reporting. Because of our work on the project, we have been guest speakers and lecturers at various events. In September 2017, we held a panel discussion at Shock-a-Con in the Beni Kedem Shrine Center in Charleston, and again at the Spring 2018 Educational Conference organized by the Chesapeake Bay Division - International Association for Identification held at the Waterfront Place Hotel in April. We presented at a live-streaming event at the Aull Center in Morgantown and held a panel the Upper Ohio Valley Festival of Books in Wheeling in October. In June 2019, we presented at the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library. The series has amassed over 400,000 listens via Soundcloud, averaging over 1,000 listens per day. Show less
