Having graduated during lockdown in March 2020, securing employment with my BEng Tech in Chemical Engineering qualification proved difficult. I possess sound entrepreneurial skills, which I put to use in May 2020, to open and run a successful baking business right from my mother’s kitchen. I was able to grow my business and receive an income from it. • Junior Shift Leader
      • Apr 2021 - Apr 2022

My position in the production team is that of Junior Shift Leader. I report to the Production Manager and work very closely with the Process Engineers, Process Optimization Engineer, and Chemical Engineer to achieve the desired production goals. • Supervising the production line in the process of raw material conversion to finished products. • Ensuring compliance with company policies, health, and safety standards on and off-site. • Collaborating with team members to make sure daily production targets are met at all times. Chemical Engineering Aspect of this position included • Overseeing the decomposition of ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen gas, operating and ensuring optimum purification of gases. • The Nitrogen was essential in ensuring the main production was safe and balanced chemically. • The main process was the reduction of the raw material using hydrogen gas in a furnace with average temperature of 550 Degree Celsius. The furnace had to be monitored very closely as the reaction conditions were very narrow with regards to pressure, air presence, nitrogen and other process parameters. • In a typical shift two tonnes of raw material would be fed and output was 1.8-2.0 tonnes. The Production process consisted of a conversion phase which takes 5-6 hours, followed by a crushing process to breakdown the sintered powder. The crushed powder is then jet-milled using nitrogen jets to further breakdown particle size to sub microns. • The final stages depending on customer specifications, the powder is blended with a specified wax and packaged into 25 kg and 80kg drums. • The continuous operation of the plant was up to me to keep up and avoid any shut downs of any unit. This included fulfilling some maintenance functions and trouble shooting on my side. • The plant was under transition from manual process control and instrumentation to automation. I had to assist with training the operators and use the new SCADA software to fulfil my duties as a shift leader. Show less

My duties were as follows; • Orchestrated and executed successful sporting events. • Taught learners the fundamentals of team sports, sportsmanship, positive value, attitudes, and behaviors expected from them. • Developed and groomed leadership skills in the learners. • Became a positive role model and helped build self-confidence in learners as well as encouraging team morale. • Introduced sports to children in the younger age groups and promoted an active lifestyle by incorporating a healthy workout while having fun. • With the older groups, I effectively introduced techniques for good sporting foundation to help the learners excel in different sporting codes. This was mainly achieved by fitness and conditioning. • Ensured that learners who were already well into their sporting improve and aim to beat their previous performances by intense training and guidance.
