GIS Hydroconditioning Intern

Dec 2017 - Jun 2018
My duties at IWI consists of hydro-conditioning a 1m-DEM of the Red River Valley and eventually the entire state of North Dakota. Different resources are used to determine the natural flow of water, such as aerial photography and Esri's advanced licensing tools such as Flow Accumulation and Stream Link using the Spatial Analyst extension. Throughout my time at the GAC, I have assisted in various mapping projects for the University of Minnesota, Duluth such as creating campus maps and mapping demographics. I have also gotten to work on some state-funded projects such as data production and analysis for new County Hazard Mitigation plans. While also assisting in the digitization of Duluth rooftops for a solar suitability app created by a collaboration between the City of Duluth, the GAC and the local Duluth non-profit organization 'Ecolibrium3'. While at the NRCS I created a wetland inventory geodatabase for Northwestern Wisconsin using Esri's ArcGIS 10.X Suite and attended field visits with the district conservationist performing data collection using handheld GPS units and a satellite receiver. I performed aerial photography interpretation of wetlands and agricultural land while using plat books, topographic maps and learning knowledge of the PLSS.
