I completed a research placement as part of my BSc Psychology w/ Professional Placement course. My placement was supervised by Dr Metzler-Baddeley and looked at examining the effects of ageing on white matter microstructure. As part of the placement, I gained experience working in a Linux-based work environment as well as gaining practical experience with analysing diffusion MRI data. I was able to benefit from attending seminars and talks from Cardiff and visiting researchers, as well as this I was able to benefit from attending lectures from the MSc Neuroimaging course. Some of the tasks that I have completed over the course of the placement include: - Reconstructing WM pathways from data of a previously collected cohort (CARDS) and writing up methodology used to derive these reconstructions. - Applying a model tract reconstruction to the entire sample to automate the reconstruction process using MATLAB. - Quality control of reconstructed tracts (Stria Terminals, Fornix and sub-divisions of the cingulum bundle). - Designing a novel cognitive task to test emotional memory to be implemented as part of a test battery - Extracting diffusivity measures from segments of reconstructed tracts and analysing them with respect to previously collected cognitive measures - Presenting progress to the lab group.

Participated in Cardiff University Research Opportunities Program in the School of Psychology, Cardiff. This was an eight week summer placement in which I was able to gain experience in all stages of research from conceptualising and designing through to running the experiment and analysing the data. My research was in the area of behavioural spillover with a focus on pro-environmental behaviour. Specifically, I examined whether Moral Elevation could buffer the Moral Licensing effect. Some of the tasks that I have completed over the course of the placement include: - Conducting a literature review into behavioural spillover and pro-environmental behaviour. - Identifying a research question based on gaps in the literature and designing an appropriate experiment to test this. - Creating relevant materials for the experiment and rolling it out via Prolific. - Data analysis, hypothesis testing, report writing. - Creating a poster presentation and communicating my findings.
