I feel strongly aligned with Carl Rogers' Person-Centered approach and particularly with his belief that all clients deserve our unconditional positive regard. The students with whom I work are experts: of their inner lives, their experiences, and every thing they've encountered as well as every space they've navigated to get to this moment in time. I help my students by partnering with them throughout the arc of their studentship at my school. I served as a Corps Member during the first year of the National Civilian Community Corps and was based at the Western Region in San Diego (which has since relocated to Sacramento). I worked on a team and together we completed service-learning projects in four focus areas: environment, education, unmet social needs and public health. Some of my projects include working as a/n: Outdoor Education Counselor with the YMCA of San Diego County where I facilitated outdoor and environmental education classes for groups of sixth graders for up to a week at a time; Red Cross volunteer serving the Russian River Valley flood area in January, 1995; and, environmental mitigation technician (varied sponsors).
