Currently, I spend Saturdays teaching at SSEF Kindergarten. As a teacher, I actively engage in developing the curriculum map for Kindergarten students and gained valuable experience and expertise in carrying out lesson plans to complete the syllabus. I have learnt to incorporate a variety of teaching techniques and learning activities to spark the students' interest and enhance their learning experience. These include The use of scrapbooks, ICT tools, physical aids, storytelling, nursery rhymes, posters, show-and-tell, and hands-on activities which help make the learning process more interactive and engaging for the students. I have also prepared student portfolio reports which is an effective way to communicate their progress to parents and keep them involved in their child's education. I strongly believe that as an educator, fostering the overall development of students goes beyond academic achievements and encompasses their social and emotional well-being. By keeping an eye on their social interactions and behaviour, I can identify any areas that may require additional support or intervention. This can include promoting positive social skills, encouraging teamwork and collaboration, addressing any behavioural issues, and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment. I am able to provide guidance and support to help students develop important social and emotional skills such as empathy, communication, problem-solving, and self-regulation. Show less

I assisted Dr. Pierina Cheung, a Developmental Psychologist at the Centre for Research in Child development at NIE in a numeracy study. We have found that by kindergarten, some children have knowledge about numbers larger than 10 and want to investigate how such understanding predicts later math development to prepare children better in their early years of development. During testing, I conducted a series of number games with the participants. These games include asking them to count, to show a number with blocks and to read numbers. This is a designed to be a longitudinal study where we will assess them over the long run when the child is in K1 and again in K2. Responsibilities include testing and assessment of participants, interacting with children one-on-one for data collection, observing classroom interactions, data management and analysis, and participation in lab meetings. The results from this research is shared in an aggregate form in a parent-friendly newsletter and provided with some ideas for activities that the parent can do at home to help the child on numeracy development.
