Community Engagement Officer
-
Jan 2014 - Apr 2015
Healthwatch is the main public-patient engagement mechanism for health and social care service users in England. As a Community Engagement Officer, I am responsible for engaging with Lewisham’s diverse communities to enable local people to influence the delivery and design of local services. I lead on children and young people’s (CYP) engagement. I also sit on the Children and Young People Voluntary Sector Forum Steering Group. I have fostered many successful partnerships with local community groups and organisations, developing innovative ways to gather service user feedback. I use this feedback to engage with seldom heard groups, including people experiencing mental health difficulties, those with a long-term condition, and people with a physical or mental disabilities to understand their experiences of health and social care services. I use the data gathered to communicate the experience of service users to local commissioners and providers at a strategic level. I led the team on an innovative Appreciative Inquiry into Community Healthcare using a participatory methodology to identify best practices and the attributes of high-quality healthcare services. Local health commissioners accepted the findings which will influence the ongoing planning of local health services. Other responsibilities include providing a signposting and information service, volunteer management, developing and implementing a marketing plan for Healthwatch, event organising, delivering and facilitating workshops, website management, and producing communication materials.
