During my PhD studies I worked on mineral replacements induced by hydrothermal reactions in the oceanic lithosphere. The main topics I investigated were the formation of seafloor massive sulfide (SMS) deposits and mineral hydration in ultramafic rocks (serpentinization). I always try to consider multiple view points when tackling with complex systems, so to understand both the side of rocks and minerals and the side of fluids I used an approach that combined aqueous geochemistry and petrology and allowed me to obtain an overarching understanding of fluid-rock interactions. I enjoy challenging myself with work that extends beyond my comfort zone, therefore on top of the research topics strictly related to my PhD thesis I also established collaborations with researchers within UofC. I worked as research assistant on the most varied research areas, ranging from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to studies on the organic content in conodonts. I also establish collaborations with external institutions like NCNR (NIST Center for Nuclear Research, Maryland), the Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron (Saskatchewan) and the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP).While research has been the main focus of my PhD program, I have also spent significative efforts in teaching, as I worked as teaching assistant for six courses spanning four different disciplines ranging from the identification of minerals and rocks to thermodynamic and kinetic approaches to geochemical modelling. Teaching helped me gain communication skills, which I refined further during presentations at world-class international conferences in the USA and Canada. My PhD studies have been a benchmark to build my leadership skills, which I improved on by acting as supervisor for undergrad students' research projects that resulted in significant scientific progress presented by my studnts at high caliber international conferences.
