Simone Cuers is a passionate and committed social planner with a genuine commitment to embedding community policy and social infrastructure into land use planning documents, and community engagement. As a private social panning consultant Simone has undertaken work for me, particularly the assessment of Overarching Site Strategies (OSS) for Community Development for major Greenfield developments in South East Queensland. This strategy was a condition of development approval, and had to demonstrate the provision and sequencing of community facilities, community development programs, resourcing, and implementation. The communities they relate to are major masterplanned communities of up to and over 100,000 people. Simone’s assessment of these strategies was critical to ensuring that these large, growing communities would contain the required levels of community infrastructure and accompanying community development program, including a community development officer, and the sequencing of this infrastructure would occur at appropriate times. I enjoyed working with Simone immensely. Simone is genuinely committed to sustainable community outcomes. She has an eye for detail, a key contributor to planning processes, and operates within a framework of best practice outcomes for the community and stakeholders.

I established The People’s Project, (TPP), in Tauranga and led the growth of the service. TPP has housed many long term rough sleepers, a group with high and complex needs. TPP is based on the fundamental belief everyone has the right to a home to live in and to live their best life. Using the internationally-proven Housing First approach we helped chronically homeless people get services they needed, with housing being the first priority. Ongoing wrap around support is key to get income, health, wellbeing, employment and other services they need to maintain their tenancy and live independently in their community.
