I worked closely with Simon for just over an year at Symstream. Within Symstream, he was responsible for a diverse range of roles from Senior Embedded Design to Embedded Software Team Lead and Project Management. I was always impressed with his highly horned communication skills and calm and collected demeanour under pressure. Simon is a pragmatic and forth-right individual who would break problems down to its core. Furthermore he loves his gadgets and loves keeping up to date with the latest technology.

Simon is a very capable embedded software engineer and I always found him to be someone who can be relied upon to get the job done. His experience with both embedded Linux and Wavecom/Sierra-Wireless OpenAT environments meant design and field application problems were resolved quickly and effectively to achieve delivery of robust working solutions to end customers. Simon also has excellent communication skills and not only got on well with his peers and management but also with external customers. I have no hesitation in recommending him for an R&D role or technical customer facing role.

Responsible for all Technology within the company. Member of the senior management team.Optalert is the only company in the world able to detect drowsiness and quantify an individual’s alertness level. Using the patented Johns Drowsiness Scale (JDS), developed by Founding Director Dr Murray Johns, Optalert’s technology assesses a user’s drowsiness level in real time by measuring a number of characteristics of eyelid blinks. Operators are assigned a risk score between one and 10 and are alerted before they become drowsy; an important distinction, as it is too late to notify a person after they have fallen asleep – especially if they are travelling at speed. With more than 20 years invested and validation by researchers from some of the most prestigious institutions in the world, including Harvard Medical School, our technology is in demand for high-performing 24-hour operations and for integration and licensing opportunities with in-vehicle systems within the consumer, autonomous vehicle and heavy-vehicle automotive industries. Although we started in the mining and transportation industries, we have increased our global reach to work with the airline industry, automotive manufacturers, railways, professional sport and companies testing medicines within the pharmaceutical industry.
