I am responsible for the management and maintenance of the gas fields at 15 landfill sites in my region. Duties and responsibilities: • Ensure environmental compliance whilst maintaining gas yields and profitability. • Ensuring the accurate and timely monitoring of site gas wells. • Managing projects from start to finish. I write and submit proposals for site works to improve the gas extraction systems. I design the new systems, order parts and arrange contractors. • Continuously seek to improve the gas infrastructure system by carrying out data analysis. • Manage the maintenance of the gas infrastructure system e.g. replacing pneumatic pumps, and raising wells with the aid of electrofusion. • Formulate and carry out investigations to further understand the effectiveness of the extraction system to minimise and mitigate possible compliance breaches. • Organise and supervise contractors whilst ensuring that H&S practices are adhered to and all work is carried out to a high standard. • Regular communication with stakeholders to maintain a good working relationship, promote cooperation and address site related issues. In this role I am responsible for monitoring gas, groundwater and leachate at number of historic landfills throughout the county. I use equipment such as GA2000+,GA 5000, FID, Laser methane detector, dip tapes and multi parameter probe; I also take groundwater, surface water and leachate samples for further laboratory analysis. I have extensive experience in using Gas Analyser Manager as well as Monitor Pro 5 to store data, manipulate and export data sets. I undertake extensive monitoring reviews using information I have gathered to suggest improvements to the current monitoring regimes and plan out new remediation strategies and projects.I am also responsible for arranging the calibration, servicing and repairs of all equipment and organising the weekly work schedule. I was responsible for the smooth day to day running of the lab, to achieve this I supervised two teams of technicians from media (production of agars and enrichment mediums) and production (preparation of samples) ensuring that work is done on time and to a high standard. I was also in charge of coordinating and carrying out a large number of internal and external quality checks, and implementing environmental monitoring within the laboratory. In my position as microbiologist I had two main roles. First, it was my responsibility to supervise the lab technicians as well as work with them. I provided support for the lab manager and team leader and on numerous occasions covered for them, carrying out such tasks as allocating work and booking in samples. Secondly I worked in the path lab, reading plates for colonies and carrying conformations when required. In my position as microbiologist I had two main roles.
