During this internship I was able to conduct my own research into the improvement of the current phenotyping of the fertility of potato plants. A study of different genotypes / populations of hybrid plants was conducted with a focus on the viability of pollen with regard to different variables such as time of day, old vs. young flowers and different methods of pollen collection. Keywords: Potato breeding, greenhouse work, laboratory techniques and data analysis. Internship sea research (ecology/biology)

During this internship I did research into the effects of climate change on the ecosystem and the macro benthos community on Wadden Sea areas in Zeeland. I was involved in several experiments at the same time and I was able to learn a lot about Ecological / biological research, including: Laboratory work: Taxonomization of macro benthos (small marine animals), Spectrophotometry, mesocosm room (climate chamber) experiment and chlorophyll A isolation from sediment and analysis, I was also allowed to carry out fieldwork at sea a number of times. Internship plant breeding, laboratory technician

During this research minor / internship i contributed to the douple haploid (DH) production process of wheat and corn. I did my own research about the comparison of different methods of pollination, to find out which method leads to the highest number of wheat embryo's which will develop into douple haploid wheat plants eventually. During this internship i worked with manual pollination from corn pollen into wheat stigma (so called wheat x maize cross hybridization), tissue culture, embryo isolation, hormone threatments, growth-medium preperation, isolation of wheat grains, collection of corn pollen and maintenance work on the wheat plants etc. During this internship i learned a lot about hands-on plant breeding and everything that comes with it. Collaborating with a large team was really educational and fun for me. Performing accurate techniques/methods in the laboratory and greenhouse and working with big amounts of data. Show less
