I work on the repair and refurbishment of ultrashort pulse fibre seed lasers for use in HyperRapid NX systems. This entails running diagnostics to determine system problems upon field return before replacing degraded or faulty components. I then continue testing the newly assembled system, determining characteristics including repetition rate, optical spectrum, pulse width, thermal response and mode-locking setpoints, ensuring seed meets full specifications. As part of my PhD studentship, I recently worked with a group of fellow PG researchers at the University of Birmingham to develop a miniaturised optical magnetometer for use in magnetocardiography. This project involved a great deal of team working and communications skills as well as bespoke knowledge and understanding that I’ve gained throughout my time at university to effectively plan and manage the progress of various stages of the device’s development including: experimental setup, development of electronics and sensor head design work. Having finished my tenure at UoB, I have begun an internship at Teledyne e2v, Chelmsford, working as a Research Intern with the Quantum Technology group. In this role I work in the laser lab environment characterising the subsystems of the ongoing CASPA and MINAC projects as well as liaising with our in-house contributors and external collaborators to write design documents for the upcoming REVEAL project. As part of my job as an Assistant Administrative Officer I worked for a branch of the HMRC known as the DMTC (Debt Management Telephone Centre) as a Collector. In the role I managed calls from customers regarding their business’ PAYE (Pay As You Earn) matters; I also managed a second type of call where customers have queries regarding Tax Credits. The nature of calls could be very diverse, dealing with direct payments, payment plans, disputed charges, etc. Within the role I would apply my knowledge of relevant tax returns and other payment procedures to determine why the customer is subject to this scenario and what can be done to resolve it. I also became adept at utilising different software programs including Excel, Word and Outlook and development Show less
