Simon is a personal development enthusiast. In his quest to unleash his speaking skills, he joined Mariswe Toastmasters to reposition himself in this ever changing world. He has grown in leaps and bounds to become an effervescent confident speaker. His speeches are always animated and thought provoking. Simon is a maverick out-of-box creative designer. He utilises his IT skills to design eye catching flyers for our club. He recently assumed the position of Vice President Public Relations of our club with a mandate of marketing the club to the outside world. He has increased visibility of our club by occupying the online spaces. His passion , energy and focus is unparalleled. He has created a strong foundation that will propel him to greater heights. The sky is the limit for him as he continues expanding his horizon in Toastmasters.

I have had the pleasure of working with Simon in the data and software engineering space, where he was the team lead. I have also seen him transform into a sales engineer and fit into the position effortlessly. To highlight a few of the keystone projects we have worked on to date: - We developed an analytics dashboard for a global mining company, where we implemented several complex data transformations to model the entire value stream of a platinum mine in an attempt to optimise the final platinum yield. - We were part of a data migration team for a large energy company looking to ingest production data into Microsoft Azure. Our role involved creating data ingestion solutions to manage, monitor, and ensure the data processing pipelines ran smoothly to satisfy business needs. Beyond learning technical skills from Simon, I have also observed the soft skills that make him a one-of-a-kind Engineering team lead. Simon is the biggest motivator I have ever met; he motivates his team members and even the clients he works with. He makes people around him feel confident and believe in their abilities. He is a great communicator and ensures both client and team members are up to date on progress and what needs to be done. There was a project I joined mid-way, and he gave me a good summary of the project, bringing me up to speed with it. He has a way of encouraging collaboration and engagement. He involves people in decision-making and listens to any input they have, showing his qualities of a democratic leadership style. I felt very comfortable sharing ideas and felt my input was valuable. He is happy to see people grow and will not shy away from sharing skills, knowledge and resources with team members. He not only gives people freedom of choice but is also happy to offer constructive criticism - if I am not doing something in the best way, He tells me how I can do it better and what can be improved- he does it diplomatically so that I feel happy with the feedback and improve myself.
