At the time, Wissahickon Charter School was a completely new environment for me as an educator. I had never worked in a Charter School setting before teaching in this role and I found new appreciation for this valuable sector of education. Stepping into the role mid-year, meant I needed to quickly learn the ropes, keep pace with curriculum and effectively manage a class of 28 students. This position helped me strengthen my organizational skills such as those used in planning and evaluation, while also providing me the opportunity to build a positive classroom culture. Ultimately, I stayed through the end of the year as an Assistant Teacher in the same room before seeking out a teaching position in an Independent School Setting. Show less

I began working at The School in Rose Valley in 2013 as an assistant in the After School Program, Substitute Teacher and Library Assistant. However, that wasn't enough to satisfy my growing interest in Progressive Education, so in 2015, I accepted a role as a Long Term Substitute Teacher. Teaching in such a unique classroom environment (i.e. small class size, mixed-age group, emergent curricula), was both challenging and fun. In this role, I strengthened my collaboration skills with parents and colleagues while also honing my classroom management skills. Upon completing this experience, I knew that I wanted to continue teaching elementary students in some way, shape or form. Show less

Teaching at Riverbend was an opportunity to take two things I love and combine them together: my passion for the outdoors and enthusiasm for teaching. Using nature as our classroom, I worked with a diverse demographic of children to explore themes of biology, ecology, sustainable practice and survival skills. In the Summers, I worked here as a counselor, leading campers on creek walks, hikes and field trips around Philadelphia. It was a pivotal experience for me as an educator, as I gained the opportunity to develop my teaching style and deepen my understanding of different developmental stages. Show less

My student teaching experience in the Norristown Area School District was both formative and fun. I gained new skills such as planning engaging lessons and crafting authentic assessments, but I also learned a lot about fostering a positive classroom community and collaborating effectively with other professionals. The experience also encouraged me to follow my interest in alternative education and explore opportunities outside of the public school system. I will always remember this teaching experience fondly! At St. Paul's Preschool I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in the infant, toddler and pre-kindergarten group classrooms. I supported the group teacher with the daily routine and used the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Early Childhood Education.
