Implemented all required District curriculum components while supplementing these to meet the individual needs of the 25 students in my charge, many who were ESL. Efforts in this area showed good success with 100% of the students meeting their reading goals for the year. In addition to the mandated content areas, I developed a play based Social Emotional curriculum which drew on the PA Kindergarten standards for this area and proposed it to the Superintendent. Its implementation was approved for my room the first year, results of growth were very favorable in the social and emotional development of the students, a large rise in on task and cooperative work, a decrease in behavioral disruptions, and a significant increase in oral language skills (especially in ESL who were brought into classroom daily by their instructor) that were also being tracked as a possible positive benefit brought about by the implementation of the play based curriculum. Implementation continued and was expanded, after training was provided by myself, to the other three kindergarten classrooms and was to be expanded into first and possibly second grade. when COVID-19 struck and sent schools into virtual mode, stopping the ability to implement and collect data.
