Sierra has served as the Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA) Program Assistant for the past year. She is a delight to work with as a team player, bringing her skills and perspectives to the work of the ICA. To our delight she has great social media skills that she has contributed to Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn throughout the year. This was an area that ICA had been very weak in before her arrival. Sierra has also played a major role in developing ICA’s carbon free programs in the community of Uptown. She is very detailed in carrying out assignments and contributing her thoughtful ideas to the tasks. Working with her, one often experiences a creative dialogue between unique and different ideas that makes the programs stronger. With both the programs and media Sierra brings strong writing and communication skills to create emails, website improvements and various documents describing the work of the ICA. Partnering her writing with her visual media skills, the results are always inviting and communicate clearly what the ICA is about. Her creativity and thoughtfulness make her a strong asset to the ICA team.

I had the honor of supervising Sierra during her time as an AmeriCorps member at Public Allies Chicago. Sierra is discerning, reliable, and responsible. Our weekly virtual training–called Learning Community–was a space in which Sierra, along with a cohort of peers, met to learn about and discuss relevant justice and equity issues in Chicago. Sierra was a thoughtful and consistent contributor in Learning Community. She often showed prior knowledge and made connections to her lived experience as well as making room for others to share theirs. She was teachable, inquisitive, and was always eager to learn and see things from others’ perspectives. Sierra has a love of learning, especially when she can make connections to equity and climate justice. She was also consistent in completing all program requirements, including regular compliance documentation, demonstrating her strong work ethic and attention to detail. I can say with confidence that Sierra is smart, compassionate, and diligent. I trust her judgment and her integrity. She would be a great addition to any team, and is one whom I recommend with great enthusiasm.
