Proactive member of the Aerodynamics, CAD, Manufacturing, Propulsion, Structures, andR&D sub-teams. Aerodynamics: Help analyze different airfoils and conduct basic performance analysis on different aerodynamic configurations. Assists in choosing optimal sizing for the competition aircraft and its control surfaces using MATLAB. Utilized SolidWorks Flow Simulation to conduct CFD on test airfoils to cross-reference with experimental wind tunnel data. CAD: Utilizes SolidWorks to help design the current competition aircraft prototype in CAD. Designed a majority of the twin-boom empennage on the '21-'22 aircraft. Heavily contributed to CAD and prototype mechanisms for syringe box deployment. Manufacturing: Utilizes 3D printers, laser cutters, and various hand tools to manufacture parts for competition and experimental aircraft. Conducts wet carbon fiber layups and gained experience working with carbon fiber. Propulsion: Exposed to eCALC and helps analyze different propeller and motor configurations to determine the most efficient combination to fulfill a minimum flight time requirement given a battery capacity limit. Solder and crimp connections, and assists in conducting thrust testing of motor-propeller configurations. Majorly contributed to Arduino setup for ramp deployment for '21-'22 comp plane.Structures: Utilizes ANSYS to conduct FEA on the tail section, fuselage, and landing gear of the aircraft and ensured that maximum stresses and deflection were well within the chosen materials' various strength limits.R&D: Explored and researched potential lifting-body configurations for future designs. Researched foam types and helped revitalize, maintain, and use an old foam cutter using Mach3 to use foam in future aircraft. Assisted in conducting wind tunnel testing and in the process of minimizing drag and optimizing airfoil mounts. Show less

Air-breathing Propulsion Engineering Intern
-
Jun 2023 - Aug 2023
Conducted post-CFD analysis in Tecplot 360 on subsonic embedded engine inlets to characterize flow distortion and assisted in iterating designs to maximize inlet performance at all flight regimes. Used Python to analyzed and identified harmonic excitation points to prevent excessive fan blade wear on turbofan engines. Performed preliminary inlet sizing, shock train calculations, and ramp scheduling for supersonic external compression inlets. Compiled and analyzed turbofan engine deck data to quantify effects of embedded installations and provide thrust data to other subteams. Gained valuable experience working within the defense industry on cutting-edge aviation technology. Show less

Engineering Intern, Research & Development
-
Jun 2022 - Sep 2022
As the first ever intern at Viatec Inc., I was placed in the engineering team to help address various issues that naturally arose following their relatively recent SmartPTO V3 product launch. I facilitated testing and implementing heating solutions to ensure batteries within products could operate in low temperature environments. I analyzed data from systems mounted to bucket trucks in the field to characterize oil pressure vs. ambient temperature levels within hydraulic systems to enable efficient pump operation. I also created complex exploded views and supporting documentation for existing SmartPTO systems to aid in field operations and repairs. Show less
