Power Plant Maintenance Responsibilities: I was stationed at the Eskom Lethabo Power Plant where I was involved in the following. -Boiler inspections. -Process flow mapping within the boiler envelope. -Piping elevation surveys and support inspections. -Compilation and review of construction method statements for piping system replacements. -Boiler tube leak investigations and reporting. -Burner inspections and condition monitoring. -Coal mill inspections. -Witnessed the Unit 5 main steam piping replacement, which included balanced erection and cold-pull technique. -Compilation of material take-offs (MTO) -Compilation and review of Quality Inspection Procedures and Quality Control Plan (QIP/QCP) -Keeping abreast with the EPRI field guides and Tube Failure Theories. Fabrication Plant Responsibilities: - Mapping of all the fabrication processes for the manufacturing of high pressure tubes. - Monitoring the fabrication and manufacturing processes for economiser and boiler bank tubes. -Compiling material and labour cost estimates. -Designed , fabricated and installed a rainwater harvesting system which helped the fabrication meet their sustainability goals by saving a minimum of 5000L monthly. Engineering Design Office Responsibilities: -Process flow mapping for radiant boilers. Mapping of steam, water, fuel and flue gas cycles. -Boiler mass and energy balance calculations. -Combustion calculations. -Furnace and boiler performance calculations. -Economiser design for retro-fitting purposes. -Pressure containment design calculations based on, ASME 1, ASME BPVC, EN 12951, and adherence to the (Pressure Equipment Regulations) PER and SANS 347 -Structural steel design calculations based on SANS 10162. -Pressure piping design calculations based on, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3 and EN 13480. -Piping system modeling and stress analysis on CAESAR. -Plant Hardware Breakdown Structures (HBS) -Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) -Data management on Siemen's Teamcenter Show less
