  As part of my undergraduate degree, I completed a placement year in the Houses of Parliament working for Peter Kyle, the Labour Party MP for Hove and Portslade, who sits on the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Select Committee. The role included responding to constituents about a range of current and ongoing issues; managing the parliamentary inbox; organising events, and conducting tours for a range of demographics. I also scheduled and attended meetings with Mr Kyle and supported his office with the coordination of his diary, research and email tasks. I was often the first point of contact for organised visitors, which required greeting them professionally and efficiently in person or on the phone and effectively liaising with their office. During my internship, my greatest achievement was independently organising an event for DebateMate, an educational charity that runs after-school debating clubs in areas of high child poverty around the world. I managed the event, which began with reaching out to various schools, coordinating schedules and selecting suitable venues in a high pressured environment, concluding in a debate within the Houses of Parliament for the students to partake in.
