Sian started working with me at TfWM in 2021 in the run up to the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and reported me directly later in the year. Sian brings good calmness and reassurance in all her work and provides excellent ideas that enables me to make key decisions. She has been instrumental in supporting me through the restructuring of my group and has taken a leading role in support us in establishing The Behaviour Change Hub at TfWM. Throughout her time with us she has been super productive, collaborative, been a team player and has lead with empathy, all the while doing it with her own style. A true profession and I highly recommend her.

I have been working with Sian on mobilisation of the 2015 Smart Network, Smarter Choices business programme for the last 6 months. She is a natural, creative leader who gets on well with her team and is able to motivate them to meet targets and develop their own skills.

Whilst in this role, I worked on our Influencing Travel Behaviour workstream in the Midlands area, working with organisations to assist them with their travel choices for their colleagues, with schools to support parents and children, and local authorities to develop their sustainable travel strategies. Particular areas of interest are the impacts of business travel and how we can help businesses save money and reduce carbon, and continuing to develop our intelligent mobility work and using technology to support employees make better choices about their travel. Whilst in this role, I managed the Business and Employers team here at Centro (8 staff) and also assisted with the Project Management of our Smart Network, Smarter Choices workstream. This included managing the team to achieve the project objectives and targets, and helping them prioritise their work, delegating work to the team and resource management of the team. As part of the project itself, I led on managing the Centro led aspects of the project, including surveying, management of the budget, marketing, ticketing, events and monitoring outputs. This included writing and finalising reports and chairing meetings. I also led on the development and delivery of the team action plan of work, which includes any work we undertake outside of the project, and future employer engagement strategy. In addition, I was a Management Board member of the Young Professionals group at Centro and worked with others across the organization on new initiatives and ideas, such as Intelligent mobility. From joining the organisation as the second member of staff, my role at Sustainability West Midlands has varied greatly. For the first year, I helped to set up all systems for the organisation, all communications including a brand new website, launching a newsletter, managing operations and supporting the governance and a variety of projects. Following the implementation of a successful intern scheme, the communications role was handed over to a colleague and I now lead on operations and governance including our work with our members. Project work includes running part of the START event in Birmingham in 2010, running our Annual Conference in October 2011, supporting our work with business and managing the Climate Adaptation partnership. Working at the West Midlands Regional Observatory provided me with a knowledge of a variety of organisations in the West Midlands and a greater understanding of how the West Midlands operates as a region. I improved my verbal and written communications skills greatly through my work as sponsorship officer, helping to raise money for the annual conference and support the Observatory staff in the run up to the conference and on the day.
