Shweta joined my team on Web Foundations at Mercari US as the very first participant in our summer internship program,. She worked closely with our team for four months, delivering code to production within her first week, and completed an independently guided hackathon event, where she not only proposed a unique feature to be added to Mercari, but also delivered a working demo that was built within the existing code base with multifaceted user interactions and a mock BE for demo purposes. Her presentation came complete with business justifications and user stories to explain why such a feature would be needed, and she utilized components from our design system and created some of her own so that, even without any product or UX guidance available, she was able to produce a convincing and working demonstration of her idea, which she presented to a group of engineers across the frontend organization. Shweta was truly a joy to work with and brought care and attention to her work that any engineer could look at and say was of exceptional quality. She completed each task by asking clarifying questions and deeply looking into the code base to understand the problem. Her pull requests were detailed and included screenshots and technical notes to help code reviewers completely understand the proposed changes. She constantly and eagerly requested feedback, and took advice from me and her mentors with a very forward-looking attitude. And she quickly adapted to any suggestions or advice about code that was give to her. In just a short time, Shweta was able to clearly express the values of our company to go bold and take on new challenges while demonstrating a commitment to writing professional code and helping others. I think she made a positive impact on our team and to our users, and we will continue to think about the ideas she brought while working here.
