My main responsibility was to serve customers on the till, as well as performing stock checks and offered help and advice to customers. Being in a retail environment enabled me to further develop my communication skills through constant interaction with the customers in dealing with their needs and solving customer related issues. I was also promoted to a position of a supervisor which involved delegating tasks to staff and managing my work load throughout my shifts. Although my main responsibility was giving product advice, I was constantly dealing with telephone enquires and was responsible for organising the furniture delivery schedule. Being part of a non-profit organisation gave me the opportunity to give back to the community. I was also involved in organising a Halloween charity event alongside my manager which enabled me to put my planning and organisational skills into practise. Teacher Assistant
-
2009 - 2011
Upon completing my Kumon Mathematics Programme I was offered a job to become a teacher. I taught both Maths and English to students ages from 5-18. It was a very enjoyable experience and it enhanced my people skills and improved my confidence to communicate with people of all ages. Working with teachers taught me the importance of having patience with children and being able to be flexible with my teaching approaches. Every 3 months, an award ceremony would be held for the students to reward them for their hard work and achievements. I volunteered myself to help run charity games and events at these ceremonies, and gave a couple of presentations to the students and parents to share my experience as a student during the Kumon challenge. I worked alongside the branch manager helping with the day-day duties such as spreadsheet work, presentations in staff meetings and administration work. After working in the service sector I have a better understanding of the importance of precision when working with numbers and as well as delivering good customer service.
