Fieldwork at Kalyan District Prison
-
Jun 2018 - Dec 2018
This District Prison houses women undergoing trial and in certain cases their children. The work in the prison was done through Prayas, a field action project of TISS which works towards the rehabilitation of these under trial prisoners and around the themes of access to justice and correction. I have worked on issues such as legal aid, family support, social support, stigma, vocational training and livelihood. Over the course of field work I Initiated an Income Generation and Capacity Building program generating a livelihood for 37 women under trial prisoners. I also worked on securing legal aid and working with lawyers for vulnerable women. The legal aid support also included drafting applications for various concerns like reduction of bail, conversion of surety to cash bail, etc. Apart from legal aid support I worked towards attaining familial backing for women with unsupportive families. Fieldowork at New Observation Home
-
Jul 2017 - Mar 2018
New Observation Home is a government institution for vulnerable children from the ages 6 to 12, attempting to restore them to their family or place them in suitable institutions while providing temporary shelter and basic facilities. During my time here I dealt with 80 children and worked on placement or restoration of children to their families. I also successfully augmented the pool of donor resources by conceptualizing and executing a donor’s meet with over 100 participating donors. This experience has helped me gain an understanding of the Juvenile Justice system. Show less
