Farber Lab - Microbiology & Immunology - CUIMC I am interested in the generation and maintenance of tissue-resident memory T (TRM) cells in early life. I integrate functional/phenotypic assays with bioinformatics analyses of transcriptomic and additional NGS datasets to identify distinctions in the gene expression profiles of TRM populations within specific tissue spaces, and characterize the functional modules they regulate throughout the first 10 years of life. I also study gamma delta (γδ) T cells, a rare but potent subset of T cells in neonates and infants. Their lack of HLA restriction makes them ideal for developing cancer immunotherapies and has been well documented in literature. However, we are only beginning to understand their range of effector functions and specific activation pathways. I use coculture stimulation, high dimensional flow cytometry and confocal laser scanning fluorescence microscopy to study what cell types γδ T cells interact with in tissues, what their resulting activation states are, and how we can can leverage their effector functions to generate therapeutics.
