My primary research interests are Data analytics, Education policy, and Human development. I study the structural challenges faced by the government schools and examines ways to reorganize school system for better functionality. In recent years, I have worked on the drain of enrollment in government schools in Karnataka, school consolidation, Right to Education, and learning level crisis. My current work involves analyzing Institutional structures and accountability in Aadhaar based delivery systems. I teach courses on Public Policy, Education Policy, and Demography. Show less

I had dual affiliation in Physics and Social Science at IITGN. In Physics, I taught undergraduate and graduate courses such as quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and Electrodynamics. I also taught courses in Networks and Complex Systems. In research, I mainly work on complex systems, which deals with emergent behavior of many interacting particles or agents. I worked on disease spreading on complex networks, the evolution of scientific collaboration networks, structure and function of brain networks under external stimuli, and opinion dynamics. In Social science, I worked on data and public policy focused on education and public health in India. In education, my works include- small schools and school consolidation and analysis of the Right to Education Act. In the public health domain, I have worked on spatial and social determinants of maternal and child health care utilization, and computational epidemiology with a focus on vector-borne diseases. I was one of the co-authors of Ahmedabad District Human Development Report 2016. I have has also worked with several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) such as Pratham, Akshara Foundation, AID-India, Asha for Education, and PHM (People’s Health Movement)-India on projects related to elementary education and public health. I have published in many national and international journals and print and electronic media. Show less

Ph.D. Thesis, Penn State University -Addressed one of the long standing problems of experimental discrepancy with field theoretical prediction of topological edge exponent. - Developed quantum Monte-Carlo and exact diagonalization codes in C and Matlab for quantum Hall edge and explored their energy and spectral properties. - Derived certain mathematical identities using operator theory for the one dimensional quantum Hall edge states, and investigated these relations numerically. - Found credible evidences for the inapplicability of the effective field theory approach to quantum Hall edges and absence of topological exponents. -Assisted in experiments to study Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) in Rb atoms at room temperature along with simultaneous elimination of Doppler broadening. -Derived the expression for the line width for a strongly driven V -system both in the presence and absence of Doppler shift. - Analyzed the probe and control spectra of V and systems and compared with theoretical predictions.

-Studied and compared the conventional methods of deconvolution with the wavelet transform based Multi-Resolution Analysis (MRA) for astronomical Images. -Implemented and tested the multi-resolution CLEAN algorithm to analyze the non-stationary 2D signals. -Compared the algorithm developed with the conventional techniques and applied it to meter wave Mauritius Radio Telescope (MRT). -Proposed a modified wavelet filter for deconvolving MRT images which proved to be more efficient than all other techniques.
