ASIAN PROVOCATEUR BBC3 (6x '30) SP: Ben Green | EP: Iain Wimbush & Emily Hudd Following the success of the non-TX pilot, a full series of this brand new original BBC3 scripted comedy travelogue was commissioned and I was hired to develop the series. I wrote a series treatment and outline, including 6 x 30’ Running Orders, with format points and full itinerary. As part of this process I liaised with Romesh's mother Shanti and spoke to Romesh's various relatives and connections in Sri Lanka and worked with fixers on the ground. The whole time, I was producing stories and scripting comedy throughout the series. I developed the notion that Romesh would check in with Shanti at various points, that she was 'orchestrating' the trip, and that Romesh would meet with various Family & friends in Sri Lanka on his journey (ostensibly 'arranged' by Shanti) who would teach him various things and various places. Pitched and developed comedy arcs and stories that featured in the TX-series, for example the story that Romesh's uncle Thiru would spend the episode treating Romesh like a potential investor and pitching to him throughout their visit to the Elephant poo paper factory and the notion that Romesh would remain stranded pole fishing at sea determined to be a success. Worked as studio AP across panellist biogs, cast research chats, studio briefings of talent and expert panellists. Main production task was to devised and pitch ideas for entertaining visual science experiments based on research from - often dull - published academic papers. Had to read and digest scientific language and use creativity to translate it to entertainment items that we achievable in studio or on VT with contributors, props or the celebrities themselves. Ideas were supersized and included testing a real-life Baked Alaska with Miranda Hart in the middle of the meringue we blow-torched and testing how many helium balloons it took to fly Davina McCall in the sky. Ideas had to be picthed, developed, tested, repeat tested, run by stunt co-ordinating team, tested again, before making it into the show. Show less
