Sheree Wilkerson completed my capston course, strategic management, in the summer of 2011 at Wichita State University. Sheree brought a very unique perspective to the content of this course because of her passion to lead non-profit organizations. On multiple occassions she and I discussed how the content learned from her degree program could help her to excel in her career path. I believe that Sheree will not only provide sound decision making to any organization that she joins, but also she will offer motivation to her cohorts through her strong work ethic and values.

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is dedicated to driving positive change through grantmaking, convening and leading, and to leveraging donor giving to meet community needs forever. The Community Foundation administers a variety of scholarships to help individuals, families and businesses create a brighter future by encouraging education. During 2011, we were able to award $328,450 in scholarships to 104 students who might not otherwise have been able to afford college tuition. We are on track to provide scholarships for a similar number of students in 2012. Since the beginning of this Community Foundation program, donors have made possible more than $3.2 million total to help young men and women through scholarships. We offer two major grant cycles that focus on our four result strategies for the region. The first is geared for programs that fall under our "Children are successful along the education pipeline" and "People can lead healthy lives" results. The second is geared for those that fall under "Communities are sustainable, livable, and vibrant" as well as "Individuals and Families are Economically Secure." At this time, we also have a grants collaborative with other funds for summer learning programs, called the SAIL partnership. The Remy Fund also provides grants for programs that work with companion animals. Show less
