Shelley’s positive can do-attitude and her incredible business acumen make her an effective organizational leader. I have directly supervised her as she capably lead several departments including marketing, operations, and development. In each of her roles she has introduced and improved programs, technology and processes. In her most recent role as Director of Innovation and Business Development we worked closely together strategic planning, master planning, and building relationships with community leaders, business owners, and city officials. This was for our five divisions: Aquarium of the Bay, The Bay Institute, Sea Lion Center, Bay Model Alliance, and The EcoCenter at Heron’s Head Park. She was also integral to the creation and launch of Bay.org’s newest division GoPlaces. Highlights of Shelley’s career at bay.org include: • Building relationships with thought-leaders in conservation, capital renovation and exhibit design to advance master planning concepts and exhibit design. • Effectively managing teams of employees reporting directly to her as well as employees in other departments. Leading strategic planning meetings to align initiatives and priorities of senior management throughout the organization. • Introducing new revenue generating and fund development initiatives and programs including; online ticket sales, combination packs, education programs, membership, major giving, planned giving, event rental programs, branded retail items. • Collaborating with education to enhance educational program experience and increase hand’s-on activities including a maker experience in a newly created Discovery Zone. • Collaborating with the board and the development committee to raise funds • Creating initial proposals and working with the Port, Pier 39, and BCDC to get approval for capital renovations and other projects. She is a talented designer that can quickly take abstract concepts and new ideas and visually communicate them to others. Her particular strengths include thriving in ambiguity, strategic capability, and creatively navigating complexity to move multiple projects forward. Shelley’s creative, open, inquiry-based style makes her a great asset to any team. Without reservation, I highly recommend Shelley to organizations looking for innovative leadership.
