In my role as Head of Geography. The last 4 years of my career have been an exciting and at times very challenging journey however, I have developed my own self-worth and progressed from managing a team of non-specialists to leading a team of non-specialists. As part of my role, I have overhauled all curriculum plans across the key stages to include lesson plans, resources and rigorous assessments. I teach all key stages: KS3 through to and including KS5. As a head of subject and as a teacher, my aim is to provide an accessible and universal education for all abilities allowing for all students to achieve, aspire and have the drive to want to be successful. As part of my teaching role, I have mentored small focus groups of years 11, 12 & 13. Within the role of a mentor I have had the opportunity of mentoring a History PGCE student for the University of Cambridge and continued this role mentoring trainee geography teachers in their PGCE year. In addition, I am currently subject co-ordinator liaising with various schools playing a crucial part in the teacher training programme. From this experience. I have also been fortunate to have the role of a form tutor providing crucial links between my students, parents and teachers, one main part of this role was delivering PSHE schemes of work. From the onset I have played an active role in the organisation of field trips such as: KS3 team building at a local outward-bound centre, KS4 controlled coursework day trips collecting data, KS5 residential skills trip key to the Geog 4A (AQA) exam. I planned, executed and delivered two extremely successful KS5 trips to Iceland. I currently lead in the planning of local, national and international trips and have been recently EVC trained. I strongly believe that fieldwork is an integral part of geography and continue to review and update many options that are available for this dynamic and very universal subject. Show less
