At Van Ness Feldman, I have supported clients and coalitions interested in policy and business strategies relating to climate change, smart grid, smart cities electric industry transitions, green buildings, energy efficiency, clean diesel engines, carbon capture, EPA regulation, federal funding, hydropower reform, and use of data and information in energy, managing government and industry programs for excellent performance, sustainability, investment and clean energy. My colleagues and I use an extensive substantive and professional network to assist clients to assess the business impacts of market or public policy changes. I have collaborated with and trained clients in effective advocacy; brought former adversaries to new, constructive relationships; and assisted a prominent organization to manage its explosive growth. Founded in 1977 with over 120 professionals in Washington, D.C. and Seattle, WA, Van Ness Feldman provides strategic business advice, legislative and policy advocacy, legal and regulatory compliance counsel, representation in administrative proceedings and litigation, and support for project development, permitting, and transactions in the inter-related areas of energy, the environment, natural resources, public lands, real estate, health care, land use, and infrastructure. We operate at the intersection of government and business. We have developed large gas and electric practices, and complementary energy and environment-related disciplines, and have been described by Chambers USA as "the best energy boutique in the USA." In addition, U.S. News-Best Lawyers ranked the firm in the top tier nationally for energy, environmental and natural resources law, and in the top tier in Washington, D.C. for energy, environmental, and government relations. The WLC is an advisory council to Brown President Christina Paxson. Originally established by former Brown President, Ruth Simmons, the Women's Leadership Council supports the University community through philanthropy, mentoring and in creating opportunities for Brown's women to engage with the university community and their peers. The WLC founded the Women's Launch Pad to mentor Brown senior women as they get ready to enter their careers and life after Brown. We are proud to also support the new program - Brown Connect - a priority of President Paxson, aimed at providing an interniship to every Brown student during their undergraduate years. The Leadership Council successfully piloted that program during 2014. Learn about the Women's Leadership Council on our page on the Brown University website or on Facebook. Show less

Keystone is a venerable conciliator and provider of mediation and conflict resolution services. Keystone is called to solve complex problems or intractable conflicts - recently they facilitated and medictaed the issue of FRACKING in Colorado. They helped Governor Jared Polis use the wisdom of citizens to find and staff his new Administration. Keystone has conected tribes and energy developers - to help both work more effectively with one another on in understanding of one another. Keystone has created a place to work on saving pollinators and spun off a dialogue on Farming. I love my work on the Energy Board - some 50 members strong - which supplements the expertise and the hard work of the Keystone Center by providing a venue for learning and reflection by great thinkers and doers in all facets of the energy and environmental world to tackle on the toughest energy and environmental issues of the day and look to the future as well. I joined the Board of Trustees of the Keystone Center as of February, 2014 to help plan and execute the growth and engagement of Keystone as it begins anew under the excellent leadership of Christine Scanlan. Center for Inspired Teaching provides for transformative teacher training, investing in school systems and in teachers to make lasting improvements. We support educators at every stage of their careers, providing a unique professional development model that improves teachers' ability to help students reach their full potential. Our programs are based in best practices in teacher education and in the belief that every child possesses the ability to think critically, understand information and solve complex problems. Inspired teachers teach children how to think, not what to think. The Inspired Teaching Demonstration School moved to a new location, was voted the BEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Washington, DC (in The City Paper) and hosted President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. What a great beginning to a new year! Inspired Teachers serve in dozens of schools in the District of Columbia and elsewhere, and we are growing a supportive movement of excellent teachers through our enhanced Master's awardingTeacher Certification Program.
