Feathers and Scales was started with the objective to educate children about the importance of animals and the environment, and rehabilitate various species of animals. This position allows me to work with exotic, as well as indigenous species. I also manage a team of presenters and animal keepers. my job entitles looking after the whole bird collection in the park such as; cranes, game birds, water fowl, flamingos, pelicans, parrots, birds of prey, and much more. I also do a bit of working for endangered species such as Manchurian Cranes, Southern Ground Hornbills, Saddle-billed Storks, Black & Grey Crowned Cranes and Cape Parrots. I also manage a team of bird keepers, assist with vet work (lots of hands on experience by helping the on-site vet) and when needed hand rearing any of the birds in the collection. If needed I’m able to assist in the reptile and the mammal section but I’m a specialist in birds. Show less

managed a team of 7 show presenters and bird trainers, by getting more involved with the running of the team, as well as the training of the collection of show animals. (Cranes, parrots, birds of prey and mammals). producing a world class animal demonstration.

My job entitled looking after the show birds, by weighing them daily and giving them the right nutrition. I also trained the birds that are in the Free Flighted show, as well as present it to over 400+ ordinance members. I also learnt how to do the basics of falconry.

My job entitled looking after the bird’s wellbeing and giving tours for school groups and tourist groups. I was also involved in the enrichment team, this entitled giving the birds enrichment, recording it and reporting any findings. I also caught and crated animals for vet checks and assisted with those vet checks. I also prepared the various diets and giving food for the birds in the park. Maintaining perches and enclosures as well as helping the curatorial staff to do pest control and nest checks. Show less
