When an organ donor passes away their family has the option to use their eye tissue to donate to the gift of sight program. Once they agree to donate then I go in and perform the procedure to harvest (remove) the eye tissue and reconstruct the eye to where you can not tell the removal of the eye was done. From there I package the tissue and send it off to our New Orleans office where it is then placed with a facility that will be able to use the cornea on a patient that needs it to give them the gift of sight again.
