  As a Warfare Specialist, I was part of the team that detects the incoming threats to the ship, identifying targets and making crucial tactical decisions. This is a vital job, involving some of the world’s most advanced electronic systems. I use radar, sonar and other electronic equipment to assess what is happening in the surrounding environment and passing the information to the Warfare Officers on my own and other ships. As my career progressed, I specialized in above-water, underwater and electronic warfare. Also I had a more ‘hands-on’ role in operations, as part of the team that loads and aims the ship’s weapon systems. Once trained I was highly experienced in weapon safety and I helped to make sure both the ship and the crew mates are safe, both in peacetime and in a high-threat environment. As a Warefare specialist I have a array of knowledge of weapon maintenance and repair, diagnosing weapon faults, replacing parts and making sure the weapons are in 100% working order. I am also trained in firefighting and damage control as well as providing sentry protection to the ship when it is alongside in port. Having been a sailor outside in every sort of weather conditions looking after the upper decks and seamanship equipment like the ropes and anchors. I also got to crew and drive the fast rigid inflatable boats, carrying out boat transfers in really rough weathers. Show less
