It gives me great pleasure to recommend Shaylee Bent. For the past year, Shaylee worked as a social media intern under my supervision as a part of the Social Media Lab in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising. Shaylee brought her passion for digital media and impressed me with her creative energy and talent. She actively assisted with planning and executing social media and communications strategies, creating weekly social media calendars with engaging copy, imagery, and video content, scheduling posts, and compiling social media analytics and reporting. Shaylee approached social media content creation with enthusiasm and an innovative spirit. It was exciting to have her explore more video production opportunities during her internship. The videos she produced garnered a lot of attention and helped to amplify the department’s reach on social media. She actively sought feedback, responded well to constructive criticism, and was always looking to improve and grow her understanding of online media trends. Launching a social media presence requires consistency and effective time management, so it was helpful to have a reliable and talented intern like Shaylee to help grow the Illinois Advertising social media channels. Her work was foundational, and we strive to continue to build on the success that she initiated. She will be an asset to any organization!

I'm proud to say I was the first one to hire Shaylee at the University of Illinois, her first semester of her freshman year. She was one of several journalism students recommended by a professor. When we interviewed Shaylee, her enthusiasm, skill level, and passion to learn something new set her apart from the other potential intern candidates. Her work ethic is admirable: she's loyal, dependable, efficient, and not afraid to speak up when there's something she doesn't know how to do or she sees a better, more creative way to execute a plan. Despite the bulk of her college career being under Covid-19 pandemic conditions, Shaylee's passion for marketing and her enthusiasm to learn didn't waver. Shaylee is the employee every manager hopes to find. I know Shaylee will go far; I look forward to saying "I knew her when..."

It was here I realized my love of entertainment marketing and got to see how sales and trends intertwined at the ground level, leading me to pursue a career in advertising. Many many hours of reading movie blurbs and sorting Funko Pops. During my high school internship I worked to help BU understand what aspects of the admissions process drew students in to apply. My final project was putting together a hour long competitive analysis and strategy presentation using my unique perspective as a senior applying to 20+ Illinois schools.
