I have been a ASCP national certified phlebotomist for 15 years. Of those 15 years, the past 7 I have had the title at this facility of, Medical Laboratory Technician 1. A position to advance and be trained on the job for people with years of laboratory experience and background. I now do the job of a certified MLT in a clinical setting. Running tests (chemistry, hematology, urines, A1Cs, Kit testings etc...) and reading diffs and microscopics. I get to work early before others and QC machines and calibrate when necessary. Learn things new everyday. I still get to draw blood and still get to teach people new things as well and hope to continue learning and teaching and advancing for years to come.

First job as a phlebotomist. Finished phlebotomy class in May and started Cooper in August and took ASCP test in October and passed and became nationally certified. worked as phlebotomist for a few months and was approached to advance to the Central Processing where we received specimens from all of the surrounding Satellite Clinics. We then logged in and processed each specimen and took them to their specific location in the lab to be ran. Also I did the sendouts in the laboratory. At the time we used a Quest Laboratory computer as our main ref. lab. We would also send out to speciality labs such as MD Anderson, Mayo etc....
