The overarching goal of the Wenceslau laboratory is to understand vascular physiology in cardiovascular and renal diseases. My primary research interest is to understand the mechanisms by which intrinsic exercise capacity, or the exercise that an individual is born with, influences vascular function and overall health. In addition to authoring publications, presenting posters and giving talks across the country, I have also received several national awards and travel grants in recognition of my research from organizations such as the American Physiological Society and the American Heart Association. I assisted on a project focused on sensory restoration in subjects with limb loss. I worked on developing an anatomical mapping algorithm between the upper-limb nerves and specific parts of the hand to be used to personalize future prosthetic devices for a user. Over the years, I contributed to different aspects of the project including data entry, statistical analysis software development, and the creation of a gold standard for sensory feedback location reporting. I began independent research into developing a wearable biopotential measurement system for in-hospital epilepsy monitoring with several of my peers. As the team leader of the project, I further honed my leadership skills in a research environment and learned to integrate the knowledge I acquired through my undergraduate study in biomedical engineering by designing a biomedical device. Our prototype was fully functional and we presented our research at Intersections: SOURCE Symposium and Poster Session in December 2017 and April 2018. Show less

I welcomed prospective students and their families to Case Western Reserve University and facilitated the success of their visit. My position was responsible for all aspects of managing the reception area in undergraduate admission, including talking with families to answer their questions, ensuring the space is clean and inviting, and coordinating the various elements of the visit program. I received visitors, answer the phone as needed, and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff member, answering questions whenever possible. Show less

I worked as intern at LNE Group, a multi-national government advocacy, funding, and procurement firm. My work was in our federal and state advocacy group, supporting the team with research tasks. I traveled to Washington D.C. on behalf of the company and aided in a research project for one of our clients. Additionally, I assisted in the submission of a multi-million dollar grant for another client and became familiar with the process of grant writing and submission. I worked as an intern in 2013 at The Cleveland Clinic in the Department of Neurosciences on a project involving the study of the hippocampus. My specific role in the project was tracing and 3D reconstruction of individual dendrites, spines, and axons in the hippocampus. I then created an in-depth tutorial and protocol on how to reconstruct the various parts in Amira for presentations and demos.
