I taught 8th Grade Social Studies and International Baccalaureate History of the Americas. This inherently included group management skills, communication skills, and organization. However, this also included curriculum development and resource finding. Working in a high poverty, urban area, led to multiple opportunities for resource connections for students (and families) and unofficial counseling. Other Duties/Responsibilities - Faculty Council for NHS: This means I assisted in NHS constitution issues and NHS member selection. - Head of Building Literacy Committee: I developed building literacy goals and plans, designed and implemented literacy professional development for the staff, found and/or developed literacy resources, designed and monitored literacy implementation on a building and individual level. - Homebound Teacher: This means I worked with a student who was too ill to come to school. So, I acted as a liaison between the student and the school. This included communication, reliability, and advocating for the student. I also acted as the teacher for all subjects for this teacher by going to her home to help provide her a quality education. - Head Detention Supervisor: This obviously included management and recording of students facing disciplinary action, but it also meant monitoring the other teacher's management of detention. - Social Studies Tutor: This includes tutoring in a variety of subjects to any student in the school. - Full Diploma IB Candidate Advisor: This included mentoring some of the brightest students in the school through their fulfillment of the IB program, academic and personal struggles, and assisting in post high school opportunities. - Club 1-2-1 Advisor: This is a Christian club. It is completely student led, which means it was my job to assist the student leaders by helping them develop their leadership skills. I helped ensure their success through preparation and accountability. Show less
