Technically astute with incredible attention to detail. Shaun has a real asset of being able to translate the lab environment into practical application, taking complex situations and making them manageable for customers and colleagues who may not have the same technical insight. A real asset in technical support.

Task: To develop and synthesize a standard procedure for the synthesis of electro-catalytic powders for use in membrane electrode assemblies. Experienced gained: Synthesis methods on fusion techniques for obtaining mixed combinations of metal powders. Cyclic voltammeter analysis techniques and handling. Proper use and polishing of electrodes for use in cyclic voltametry. Nafion membrane activation and use in membrane electrode assembly. How to properly use and gain information from journal articles for application in research and development. Electrode coating methods such as doctor blading and spray gun method. Interpretation of XRD analysis of synthesized powders. Result: Was able to develop a synthetic route for the synthesis of 3 electrocatalytic powders of Iridium/titatium dioxide mixtures at different ratios. I also obtained good results from cyclic voltametry analysis and was able to complete the assigned task within the required deadline. This showed that there is great promise for the use of these powders in fuel cell assemblys, as a cheaper alternative to the materials currently in use for fuel cells in the market. Show less
