Recruiting business support and administration roles within the Newcastle and Hunter region, my role required me to understand my clients' needs and provide relevant staffing solutions. My primary focus was on speed-to-market and providing suitable, pre-screened candidates for any given role at a moment's notice. Putting my business development, graphic design and marketing skills to good use, I created Lacor Float Centre from scratch as a passion project. This business enabled me to discover my entrepreneurial side and listen closely to the Newcastle market, providing a service that tackled issues of mental and physical health. What is floating? This form of therapy involves lying in a specifically designed tank that is filled with water warmed to your skin temperature at a depth of roughly 40cm. Dissolved in the water is up to 400kgs of Epsom salts. This extremely dense solution enables people of all body types to float effortlessly and escape the pull of gravity. The float tank is perfectly designed to eliminate all outside distractions such as sight, sound, tactile sensations and, of course, gravity. Once you are settled in the tank, it is virtually impossible to distinguish between parts of the body that are in contact with the water and those that aren’t, in effect “tricking” the brain into believing that you are floating freely in mid-air. What happens when you take away all external stimulation? Your body and your mind go into a blissful meditative state which is perfect for alleviating symptoms of stress, anxiety and muscle soreness.
